Does mplayer work for RealAudio? Try

$ mplayer -prefer-ipv4 -cache 100  -playlist \
     http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/science/rams/materialworld.ram

Is "Embedded Mplayer" at the top of the embedded file association for 
audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin, and is "Show file in embedded viewer" 
selected?
