Yes Anne, it is the RealAudio codec. If xine behaves like kaffeine, this 
will let it find the codec:

mkdir /usr/lib/RealPlayer8
cd /usr/lib/RealPlayer8/
ln -s ../real/ Codecs

(The plf codecs are in /usr/lib/real but kaffeine looks 
in /usr/lib/RealPlayer8/Codecs which is where the RealPlayer 8 codecs 
were.)

I suggest you rename ~/.kde to ~/.kde-save (working in a console session, eg 
Ctl-Alt-F1) and start afresh with default settings for kde.
