A solution that many find less problematic to set gtk styles and themes within
KDE is the gtk-qt engine. This provides a KDE control center module that
allos you to set your gtk styles and fonts from within KDE. It can be set to
a 'qt' style that will mimic the look & feel of your KDE applications, or you
can choose to use an already installed gtk style.
