He encontrado el mensaje:

NOTE : 2011/11/11 : At this moment kdenlive builds are english only, this
is not a bug [translations have moved away from kdenlive head with KDE.git
migration, they are hosted now by the l10n-kde4 team]. Translations return
is expected as soon as possible.

Al intentar instalar MLT desde el ppa
https://launchpad.net/~sunab/+archive/kdenlive-svn<https://launchpad.net/%7Esunab/+archive/kdenlive-svn>

¿Existe actualmente alguna manera de poder instalar MLT ?

El error original que recibo es el siguiente:

mlt_repository_init: failed to dlopen /usr/lib/mlt/libmltavformat.so
(/usr/lib/mlt/libmltavformat.so: symbol ff_cropTbl, version LIBAVCODEC_53
not defined in file libavcodec.so.53 with link time reference
