[Kde-kiosk] KDEDIRS no more?

Hi!

In KDE 3.1, I set the KDEDIRS environment variable *before* running
startkde, and that way modified the menu and some other things for all
users.

In KDE 3.2, at least on SuSE, the startkde script does:

unset KDEDIRS

..as one of it's first things. Is KDEDIRS deprecated? The
documentation, for example
http://kde.ground.cz/tiki-index.php?page=Environment+Variables,
doesn't give that impression.

It does look like I can use the kiosktool nowadays to do most of the
stuff, but I'm still curious.
