The SUSE RPM will not work correctly on RedHat because SUSE uses /etc/kde3rc 
and I believe RedHat uses /etc/kderc (as does standard KDE)

Make sure that your $KDEDIRS includes the prefix you have installed to. For 
the SUSE RPM that would  be /opt/kde3
