Ugh, seems that the SUSE theming happily ignores that.

Can you check if the extra icons come out 
of /opt/kde3/share/config/SuSE/default/ ?

If so, they get copied by SUSE's startkde.theme and there is not really a nice 
way to disable that other than by editing startkde.theme or by removing the 
offending .desktop files from /opt/kde3/share/config/SuSE/default/

Don't delete everything from that directory, not all of it is copied to the 
desktop.
