[Kde-kiosk] blurry background during kde startup?

I'm not getting the standard X11 raster pattern - it's bluring my actual background image. Give me some credit here ;) It looks like a blur effect done on purpose during startup. As said, boot up Knoppix and watch the background image. Use the text in the bottom right as a reference.

Exactly. And because it takes quite a while before kdesktop is started (it's 
started even after the WM) you see the standard X11 raster pattern in the 
mean time.

That's why you can use xsetroot at the top of xinitrc to set it to an opaque 
colour until kdesktop is started some 20 seconds later... :)
