The reason for this is that the [$i] gets lost when you exit kicker. On exit 
kicker will write changes to kickerrc, doesn't notice the [$i] and overwrites 
it. (Normally the kickerrc that gets loaded on startup already contains the 
[$i] in which case kicker will not even attempt to write anything.)

Fixed for KDE 3.1.1
