Just an idle thought.... but have you looked at the Execute setting for
your little kdialog file association?

Some of the file associations use the form "xmms %U" and some are
like "gvim -f %f" - doesn't the %U mean pass the URL and %f pass the,
downloaded, file? If you therefore set the association in the form

kdialog -sorry "Nope!" %U

it may not download the file.  Just an idea. Sorry I can't try it myself
for you - I'm on the road today and reading mail via a glass teletype :-(
