It definitly does, on my machine, a plain centrino running accelX (due 
to the dreaded resolution problems the Intel Chipset has on XFree).
GTK2 is the slowest, then probably Swing on Blackdown RC1 and currently 
Qt and FLTK beat everything there is.

I am not sure which is faster, but in the last incarnations Qt and KDE 
have become blazingly fast.
