Prashant,
sorry for being the non-proverbial rat's ass in your pie[1] ... but TT
is the biggest employer of KDE devs.
At very least, even if Nokia doesnt do anything, it means that KDE
developers will be well paid, well fed and ready to make KDE the
coolest "next gen linux desktop" on the planet. And, seeing the
generally high enthusiasm of KDE people, I wouldnt wait too long to
see KDE on the nokia mobile. People in large corporations do get free
time you know - and with KDE people, i would bet that much of that
free time would be spent on KDE (if not considering the amount of paid
time they would spend on KDE).
Personally, I am very very happy about this deal and I hope to God to
see KOffice on the mobile (and on the desktop) just as they took
KHTML, KJS, etc.
KDE and TT are part of an ecosystem ... if you know what means, it
means that TT is as dependent on KDE as KDE is dependent on TT.
And there is always the BSD clause ... if Ive ever said anything
right, its this: if by some totally remote possibility Qt is ever not
supported by Nokia (and I strongly doubt they would let go of
something like Qt), and it is released under the BSD licence, you can
be pretty sure that the opensource world will (nuclear) explode and
what remains would be just KDE.
I say this only from my limited personal experience of what Qt C++ and
PyQt does to your brains.
Regards
Rajeev J Sebastian
