I've used metabar for a while. I think it is in much need of 
replacement/improvement.

The problem with the preview stuff is that, what exactly should you preview if 
the directory contains images and videos ? Both ? If so, then it can be done 
by making a kpart (probably BrowserView component) and then delegating the 
functions to gwenview or kaffeine as the case may be.
