I was trying to avoid that. It is not difficult to do it, it's just that it's a
hack, and, as such, I believe that it should be made by a packager since it is
definitely a problem of packaging.

By the way, changing the parsing would make it dumber rather than smarter
because it then assumes less about the output.

What I can do is provide here a patch for distributions with a faulty hugin
package.
