This program could serve as example http://imagination.sourceforge.net/ it has
the features the OP asks for.  Would be nice to see the program (imagination)
in an KDE outfit or as a KIPI plugin if that is possible.

The transitions are nice as you can see them when going through the list. 
Makes it easy to determine what transition to choice (it would even be easier
to show them all on one page).
