Summary: Advance Slideshow crippled due to creation of
                    Thumbnails
           Product: kipiplugins
           Version: 1.2.0
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: AdvancedSlideshow
        AssignedTo: kde-imaging at kde.org
        ReportedBy: polar at syr.edu

Version: 1.2.0 (using KDE 4.4.2)
OS: Linux

The Advanced Slideshow dialog does not appear until all the thumbnails are
created for the internal list. This causes the dialog to remain blank until
that is completed. However, if you have 8 thousand pictures you are out of
luck, because you can wait all day, especially on a slow laptop. In some
instances, KDM crashed.

Please make this "feature", somewhat optional. Do not background the process,
because that takes up processing speed you probably don't want at this point.

The bottom line is, if you have a lot of pictures and slow processing speed,
limited memory, you cannot even start the slide show until it goes through them
all, if it doesn't crash your session.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Select an Album with 10K jpegs on a slow machine without much memory. Say, use
a laptop with an Album on a large external USB diskdrive. Select Advanced
SlideShow.

Actual Results:
The Advanced Slideshow frame comes up, but does not fill in.

Expected Results:
It should just come up and be ready to go. Stop generating the Thumbnails.
