Sorry for the alte answer.
I made some tests but i seem i cannot reproduce it.
I selected 4 images and printed to pdf 1xpage, then 2xpage, 3xp and 4xp,
without
any problems. 
Then i chose 7 pictures and again from 1 to 7 per pages i got no
errors/crashes...
I use kde 4.4.3 and Qt 4.6.2 on linux Mandriva 2010.1 though
