Thank you for the help, but I am afraid this is not going to work.  Putting the
requirement on a end user to custom build packages outside of the repositories,
is not a workable solution I'm afraid.

There is no project directory and the NEWS file in the main directory only
contains .5 -> .6 changes.  There are no other NEWS files in the entire tree. 
I have searched this bug tracker, but can not find the particular issue I have.
 I am still very interested WHY this worked and now does not work, and what
caused it.

Please close this bug at your convenience, as I will have to move to other
software (F-Spot works fine).
