thanks for the positive feedback :)
When you talk about the slideshow, do you mean the "advanced slideshow" and 
its long loading time?
If so you seem to use the SVN version? Because I fixed a lot of memory and 
loading time issues in AdvancedSlideshow this week, so you might even want to 
try out the latest KIPI-plugins package (0.5.0) which was released this 
weekend. 
Should be even faster now :D
