I can not reproduce your problem. Could you try again with kipi-plugins 0.9?
There have been some improvements in the timezone handling. Also, please make
sure that your setting for "Max time gap" is low (e.g. 2 secs).

It would also be useful if you could tell me which timezone you are in and
which locale you are using. Is the number of points parsed from the gpx file
the same with and without the 'Z'?

Do not hesitate to post a few screenshots.
