Re comment #13: I don't think 0.18.2 or trunk is different in this area. But
using trunk for the analysis is better anyway.

Re comment #15: Is that the same issue as discussed here:
http://dev.exiv2.org/boards/3/topics/show/201 i.e., at least the "necessary"
image tags need to be written anyway.

Check if this has something to do with the whitebalance: load the "corrupted"
image in ufraw and change the whitebalance setting from "automatic" (which
means it reads it from the metadata) to something else. Does it make a
difference?
