Creative Commons has developed a software library (LGPL) that reads and writes
license metadata to a variety of file formats, including jpg, jpg2000, png,
gif, etc.  You can simply give it an Author, Title, and License and it will
embed that information into the file.  Then later any other application that
can read the standard metadata is able to display that information.
