No, you won't need to do the backporting, Gilles would have done it. It was
a small change by me in the code to allow non-gmail.com email ids to be
handler properly. My KDE3-digikam installation is in bad shape, so I
requested him to backport the change and submit it.

Could you try login with your usual login name and see if things work fine
now. Also report if the username: field on the upload dialog shows your
username properly now. You can use the change user button to login again and
again.
