Under Mandriva 2008.1, i don't recomend to try to compile digiKam, because
kdelibs is an old version (KDE 4.0.3).

Use Mandriva 2009.0 where KDE 4.1.2 is installed. It's really better.

You can use a separate partition to install 2009.0, or another computer, or
with VirtualBox 

In 2009.0, KDE3.5.x still available, but it's not the default desktop (KDE
4.1.2). You need to take a care to install other desktops during setup and
login to KDE3 by default.
