I would suggest to use introduce a VARIABLE for use with
insertCatalog().  Something like

#define LIBKDRAW_CATALOG libkdraw

Whenever we manage to install libkdcraw.mo as
libkdcraw-<apimajor>.mo  (as it should have been
since API version 1) then LIBKDRAW_CATALOG will be
libkdcraw-<apimajor>
