>I tried to reproduce the problem again. I cleaned ~/.thumbnails and >~/.kde/cache*/kipi-findduplicate folders and tried to find duplicates again. All >was fine. 

no idea why...

This plugin use Qt API to open images. So the image loader is limited to file format supported by Qt.
