Idea #2 is not a bad one...

Basically it would mean adding another side panel in the image editor (or maybe just extending the colours side panel). Ideally The controls would work directly on the image without the need for opening of dialogue boxes (I think that krita now handles image previews inline - something like that would be excellent). I understand this would take some serious re-engineering of the codebase an improvement but less desirable approach would be simply to have buttons which bring up the existing dialogs.

This approach is not just for new users. Anybody who processes large amounts of images will appreciate this workflow achievement.

Think of it as grouping all the controls from the filters you use constantly in one big filter that always stays open.
