Just a note, are you sure it's still valid?
IIRC Vardam, Col and Aurélien I believe, do some dialog reworking
to have them not Modal, not sure for slideshow though (Valerio?). 
BTW which is the kipi-plugins version
if he can't use digikam 0.9.0 for a lack of exiv he cannot use
kipi 0.1.3 rc1 either ;)
