I tried with two different scanners (HP PSC 1610 and Canon scan N656U) amd i saved tiff perfectly. Well i tried svn version of kipi-plugins I'll check rc1 asap. 
Now I start suspecting a packaging problem, maybe some dependency missed in it.
Try asking suse packager.
