right now there is no test for checking installation for libkipi if
kipi-plugins is compiled from a separate tree than the libkipi, which will
happen when distribution packagers start making tarballs for libkipi and
kipi-plugins. and pkg-config will address that issue.

yes. but you have to click on the about button to get to know the details
of the plugin, it should not be immediately apparent. even though
kipi-plugins are meant to be used by multiple host applications, they are
meant to be used as integrated into the host app, not standout as
standalone apps.
