Red, white and seafood!

Half the fun of eating out is the décor, and a meal at go brit! is no exception.
Each aspect of the décor has been carefully chosen for its UK links. Behind every
symbol is a story.

As soon as you pass through those red telephone kiosk doors, you're surrounded by
British icons. Although public telephone kiosks were first introduced in Britain
in the 1880s, it wasn't until around 20 years later that they became a common sight
on the streets of the UK.

Another British icon, the London Underground, is the inspiration for the "Mind the
Gap" sign, a message copied on countless subway systems around the world. Although
the London Underground opened in 1863, the famous message wasn't actually introduced
until more than 100 years later, when sound engineer Peter Lodge recorded it. Kind-hearted
London Underground recently reinstated the original recording at stations following
a request from Peter's widow.

Perhaps the best recognized symbol of the UK, however, is the red white and blue
of the Union Flag. What you may not know is that although it's often referred to
as the Union Jack, this is actually only accurate when the flag is hoisted on board
a ship. The flag unites three crosses: St George's red on white; St Andrew's white
on blue; and St Patrick's red on white.

So, next time you're enjoying your meal at go brit! or go fish! spare a thought
for the traditions behind the décor - and then tuck into that most traditional British
invention, Fish and Chips.
