A British trivia night for all starting January 9
Season winner to star in TV commercial
If you love all things British, this is a trivia night you can't miss.
Every Wednesday starting January 9, go brit! will host a trivia night that will
test your knowledge of British culture and history. The fun starts at 7 p.m. Form
a team or play by yourself. The participant with the most accumulated points by
the end of May will star in one of the famous go fish! and go brit! commercials.
Who doesn't love trivia?
The word itself is thought to come from Latin, meaning where three roads meet.
In Roman times, these meetings of the roads were often home to a tavern - just
the place for travelers to enjoy a drink and catch up on all the gossip.
It's thought that the great British pub quiz probably originated some time around
1970, and for many pubs they're still a way of getting people to enjoy an evening.
As TV shows like "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" and "The Weakest Link" grew more
popular, pub quizzes have also offered a way for everyone to share in the fun.
You get to test your brain power, compete in a spirit of friendly rivalry, and
enjoy an entertaining night out. What's not to like?
Join the trivia fun at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 9 only at go brit!

The artist's way: fish and chips on screen, art and literature
Fish and chips have been with us, in one form or another, for centuries. And as
a traditional, hearty British food, they're featured in a surprising number of books
and artworks. Dickens mentions them in "Oliver Twist" and "A Tale of Two Cities."
They are in "Lord of the Rings." In Terry Pratchett's "Johnny and the Bomb," they
help one of his characters to focus. In "East is East," the main character runs
a chip shop. One of the most cockney of long-running soap operas, "EastEnders,"
features Ian Beale as a chip shop owner.
Contemporary artists David Fitch and Erica Sturla have perfectly caught the spirit
of fish and chips in their artworks. What are we missing? Let us know in our Facebook
