Assalam o elekum, i am glad u guys care to reply back ... as far as Urdu translation for KDE is concerned yes we have done it to large extent ... u can say near abt 60% ... we've done it using po editor but tested on desktop Linux...

now that we r testing it on KNOPPIX the live CD i am unable to know how to do it ... basically we r undergrad. students and this is our final year project ... we have experience on Linux for no more then 6 months ...

the method u suggested was using "dpkg-reconfigure locale" , I couldn't really get it ... i've typed this on root shell ... a blue color screen opens i've selected ur_PK utf-8 from it ... another screen opens it asks " which locale should be default in the system envoirnment" and I have no clue what to do next ... there is no UR option over there then ... i've tried ar for arabic... it shows this error " cannot remove /usr/lib/locale/archive read only file system" and "can not open locale archive read-only file system" ...tell me in detail the procedure... rather it would be more helpful if u can tell me the detailed procedure let say i want to translate kde distro to xy language for which nothing has been defined in KDE ...where should i begin from ...

actually inorder to customize the CD we go through a process known as remastering ... we copy the entire thing using cp -Rp /KNOPPIX/* to a partition with ext3 filesystem ... we then customize by adding and removing whatever we want using dpkg and apt-get remove ... after this we make an image boot from that image to test it ... so basically we will have to add and remove the neccassaries manually ... i can give u details if u want ???

its a long mail ... sorry for taking so much of ur time ... but i need ur help desparately ... thanx for replying once again take care Allah hafiz
