I believe he handled stuff pretty much unilaterally until now.
Given a friendly but determined push from a number of people who are actively
involved with KDE artwork, we may well have some influence on certain aspects
of the specification.

I'll see if I can talk to Rodney in the next one or two weeks.

The issue might not be resolved until then. I suggest to implement the
behaviour from the current "stable" version (0.8) for now and extend the
device loading features after consulting with Rodney and when the spec has
been bumped to 0.9.

The sensible ones, yes. There's a lot of stuff that I wouldn't consider to be
worthy of being a "standard" (even though fd.o doesn't do those anyways ;)
so it's a question of cherrypicking the important ones.

For the devices/ icons, I already sorted between appropriate and less
appropriate "standard" icons, it's now a matter of getting those included
in the spec.

Agreed, we might be better off to stick to the most intuitive approach
(normal, recordable, audio, video) and drop the format additions in order to
preserve simplicity, so that icon theme designers are not expected to make a
{dvd, hddvd,bd} icon for each of {normal, recordable, audio, video}. That's for
sure an issue that needs to be considered for pushing into the spec.

So I modified my proposal to completely removing the DVD icon (also discussed
with Aaron on IRC) and uploaded the whole thing to
http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Oxygen/namingSpec/devices .
I think it should now accomodate everyone, also, please don't change it
without having discussing your change with me beforehand.

Have fun!
