Hi Frederik,

Thank you very much for taking on KGoldrunner SVN to GIT rules.
You are very kind. I do not think I would have much idea of how
to do this myself. Thank you again, Frederik.

I do not know what the tags are. AFAIK I have never consciously
used a tag in KGoldrunner. I am not even sure what a tag is … :-)

KDE 3.2.0 and the run-up to it were the first appearance of KGoldrunner
in kdegames/trunk. That was in August/September 2003.

It first appeared on the KDE CVS repository in March 2002, almost
10 years ago, in a place called kdenonbeta (a predecessor of
playground). It was a Qt-only (Qt 1 and 2) game at first and it took a
while to convert to Qt 3 and KDE 3.1(still on kdenonbeta) until
August 2003 when it was moved from kdenonbeta to trunk by the
system admin guys. Authors/maintainers could not move files in CVS.

It then followed the release cycle from trunk to KDE 3.2. And the rest,
as they say, is history … :-)

I first found source code for KGoldrunner, written by Marco Krueger,
on some release files for KDE 1, FWIW, in an area called "alpha"
to which anyone at all could contribute IIRC (i.e. without a KDE
account). That was early in 2001 on SuSE 6.3 CDs, which included
binary packages and source code, both.

LOL. That is debatable … :-) Seriously, the commit messages indicate
that those tags were intermediate stages Dirk went through during the
CVS to SVN conversion. So I would say disregard them.

As far as I can see (I have not checked the fine detail), all my commits
right back to the first one, into kdenonbeta, are on the logs I can see in
Websvn kdegames/trunk/kgoldrunner. As an example that is not too
lengthy, see the log of kdegames/trunk/kgoldrunner/src/main.cpp.

I would be more than happy if that much history could go into git.
However, if there are any difficulties, a shorter history would be
fine --- say from KDE 4.6 or 4.7 release onward.

Hoping this helps,

All the best, Ian W.
