[Kde-games-devel] Re: New Kpat feature.

Parker,

Thanks for responding. Well, our original plan was to take and make a menu item to appear under the "Settings" menu. From there it would open a dialogue box that would ask for a name for the new deck and a path to the desired image. Then it would generate a new deck file that would put the destination file path into the <image> function provided and use the dimensions I've found to be the best overlaid on top of a border template. The file is then zipped up and placed in a shared folder where the game can pull from. I've already tested the skeleton of this idea and it should work. But I'm glad that this is a desirable feature. That's a rough outline, but I think that should be a fair explanation of our idea. I hope it makes sense and that you might be able to give me some pointers on it.

As for the experience, I've had about 2 years of C++ programing and done some introductory work with Qt. Although I am new to KDE and SVN I've found some tutorials that should provide us enough help to work through any problems we encounter.

I'm excited to here your opinions on this idea.

-Jayce

P.S. Thanks for the heads up, Antonis.

Installing to an absolute path like /etc/bash_completion.d is also a
pretty bad idea. I'm very curious where such a file would go on a
Windows machine. :)

By the way, Wolfgang, would you mind not sending HTML email to this
list? It's generally considered a faux pas, even if you don't do any
crazy formatting.

you are right of course. OTOH I would be very suprised if
kajongg would run on Windows unchanged.

Sorry for that, it was unintentional - I never send HTML mails
and have no idea why kmail suddenly did.

Does your mail client prefer to display HTML over text, or how
did you notice my HTML? kmail as it runs here would silently
ignore HTML if there is a text alternative.

Hi,
I'm a new developer and my partner and I were wondering if adding a feature to Kpat would be a good idea. We were thining of implementing a new menu item that would allow users to take their own photos and use them as backs for their own deck. We would like to know if this feature would be desirable and if it is if anyone has any tips to consider when programming in Kpat code.

Thanks,
     Jayce

that would be way too fast for Kajongg. But I am planning
to let the player act before a tile reaches its final
destination.

Of course not - I'm performing a user install using kdesrc-build as per
the api.kde.org docs.

Requiring root permissions is a big no no.

I removed installation of bash completion again.

Hello

I am a new contributor to the kde, so i will not be able to help about how to
do it... But i would like to inform you that right now you cannot add any new
feature to kde because of the "soft feature freeze"
So you will have to wait until 22 December because then it is the first
Release Candidate... In which i think (but i am not 100% sure), trunk will
unfreeze again and then the new features will be able to be added...

Regards
Antonis Tsiapaliokas

Review request for KDE Games and nihui.

Summary
-------

This patch removes the "Quit" action from Klickety's toolbar. Including this action in the default toolbar layout is very uncommon because the window manager's X button, which serves the same purpose, is readily available at a standardized position. The initial motivation for me was that the default toolbar does not fit into the default window size.

Diffs
-----

  trunk/KDE/kdegames/klickety/klicketyui.rc 1192715

Diff: http://svn.reviewboard.kde.org/r/5768/diff

Testing
-------

Installed, works (though I've not bumped the ui.rc version, because Klickety in trunk is still young).

Thanks,

Stefan

Leave it there. I had more urgent things to do, and the feature freeze is too
soon, but I'll try to integrate it with 4.7.

Hello Matthew,

This is a feature that has been suggested and discussed in the past,
so it would be appreciated. As you probably know (and may have been
prompted by) in the past few releases KPat has dropped the ability to
select card backs independently from card fronts. See here [1] for
some of the reasoning behind that decision. Regardless, this change
does increase the demand for the ability to create custom deck.

As for the actual implementation, making the feature a part of KPat is
actually a pretty bad idea. KDE's carddecks are shared between our
card games (which are currently just KPat and LSkat, but there could
be more in the future). Obviously, we'd like to have this feature
available to all games. I see two ways of doing this: integrating this
feature into the card dialog or creating a separate application (which
could then be launched via a button in the card dialog). Since
creating new decks involves only creating the appropriate files on
disk, I would recommend starting with the latter approach. There is no
need for this feature to be tightly integrated into either game, which
is good news for you, as both the KPat and LSkat codebases are quite
old and have plenty of scary parts you'll be glad if you can avoid.

Could you please outline exactly what functionality you're thinking of
providing and how it would be presented to the user? I have a few
ideas, but I'd like to hear your (rough) plans before sharing them.
Also, what is your experience level with C++, Qt, KDE and/or SVG
programming?

Antonis mentioned the feature freeze, but we can certainly find
somewhere else for you to work on this in the meantime.

Parker
