I play some strategy games in win2k (now Vista), and they use either F3 or the 
pause/break key to pause the game.  Both of those solutions suck, IMHO.

Being right-handed, I use my left for some shortcuts, often resting my left 
arm on the desk.

The esc key is far more convenient for me to use for pause or to pause & go to 
a menu.

Being KDE, I'm sure it will be configurable by some method, but I think esc is 
a good default.
