Yes, optionally it can be a great thing--  I think the main thing to
make sure of is that no app does /anything/ to the cursor without a
good reason for it.
Never hide the cursor completely.  (bad example: frozen bubble)

For example, games that start out with a 2d GUI should leave the
cursor alone until it has been navigated and the cursor becomes a
different kind of control.  (bad example: chromium)

Also note how virtual machines handle cursor grabbing-- perhaps there
are some good ideas there?
