Hello everyone,
I read Johann's blog with the background image for kbattleship and it
got me excited to help out a little if you'll let me.

First some thoughts about the background for kbattleship.
It is very pretty but it is also very distracting in my opinion. Your
eye is drawn away from what should be your focus, the ships. I don't
think it quite matches the game either. It makes the ship look like a
toy in a swimming pool which is also distracting.

My proposal:
I do agree that drawing the sea is very difficult. I made up a
background that looks like water when looked at from high in the air. I
put together an svg mockup to show you how I'd like to see it look using
this background.

The background I made using four layers. The first two are wave
highlights. Layer 3 and 4 are solid blue. layers 1,2 and 3 are grouped
together and made semitransparent. Layer 4 is solid and provides most of
the color so the blueness of the water can be adjusted to taste.

bship1.png -shows the ship sitting on the water.
bship2.png -shows one miss.
bship3.png -shows one miss and a couple of hits.
bship4.png -shows the now sunken battleship.

I think this background is less distracting, fits the subject matter
better and still looks good. I can send you the svg file if you like
what you see.
