[Kde-games-devel] KDE HIG (was Re: KGameDifficulty)

Continuing my previous message about KGameDifficulty and the roles of
the toolbar and statusbar, I found the HIG docs at developer.kde.org.
Maybe it is outdated, not sure. Start at

http://developer.kde.org/documentation/standards/kde/style/basics/

It has some definitions about common policies related to toolbar
management and its relationship to items in the menubar. It also lists
the typical usage of the statusBar to display state information about
the document being worked on, and including somethings we do not do,
such as using the first field at a fixed width, and letting the others
spawn the reminder of the length. A good starting point, but I feel we
should look for KDE4 specific guidance related to the human interface
guidelines and how we are going to place our widgets.

We also will need to have a way to put this (and other) widgets on the
game area in the future, I think. This is something the artist guys want
to experiment with (no toolbars, no statusbar, in-game display of
information.) If a theme wants to do this in the near future this should
be possible, and in this case the automatic placing (in any location)
should probably be optional anyway.

Should we post to kde-usability asking for help? There is also a
kde-guidelines mailing list, but it seems to be dead (last message from
November 2006.) Alternatively, a blog post could also attract attention,
but might not bring the necessary focused review we need.

Regards,
Mauricio Piacentini
