Fade to black

It would be nice to have a clean gaming interface without needing to actively
turn it on. So here is my wishlist concept for Fade to black, comments
welcome before I add it to bugzilla.

When playing a game and the mouse pointer stays within the game (board) window
it indicates that the user is only focusing on the game and after a while
everything outside the game starts to fade to black. Moving your mouse
outside the game window cancels the fading, you are obviously also keeping an
eye on something else, the game will not try to fade out the rest of the
screen during this gaming session again.

But you allow the fade to happen and everything outside the game board is now
black, even the icon tool bar and the menu bar are gone, but those game
related elements both return whenever you mouse over one of them. The game
now looks pristine. The rest of your desktop does not return to visible when
you mouse over it.

To see your desktop again you must click the black border surrounding the game
board, in action clicking games even doubleclick well away from the game
board, perhaps even the screen border. Or simply quit the game.

Fade to black is not only helpful for games but also for multimedia
applications where you may want to give undivided attention to your media.
