For what it's worth, after some experimenting it seems to be me like the
"Colors" choices as well as the "Application Style" choices in the KDE system
settings are simply being entirely ignored. The styling just doesn't seem to be
working on this install. Is there some useful log file somewhere that could
shed some light on this?

The plasma system monitor also seems to be crashing, and since it seems some
arithmetic error, I am wondering if it's also related to the themeing seemingly
being broken (and therefore perhaps some broken style info leading to some size
calculation that crashes):
