Patch seems to have done the trick for me. I dropped it into
/usr/ports/x11/sddm/files and rebuilt sddm via ports and is working flawlessly
for me now. I tested Crtl+C, Crtl+Z, and SHIFT+". (And I did make sure my
changes to /usr/local/share/sddm/scripts/wayland-session had reverted. )
