John, please, how did you produce the crash? 

Does your desktop show ~/Desktop items, and did you right-click on a file? 

If so, you might find it possible to right-click on a .pkg file without
crashing. As a test, download
<https://pkg.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:15:amd64/latest/All/ark-24.12.2.pkg> then move
it to ~/Desktop
