Could it perhaps be something font-related? Is there something I can do to
collect more data that could help you address this somehow? I guess perhaps I
should try to use a Wayland session but last time I did it seemed to be still
quite new and seemed to have some packaging issues. I suppose if this only
happens with X11, perhaps it's not worth fixing.
