Bug 286480: x11/kde: No compositing nor desktop effects anymore after upgrading
from qt5 to qt6 with old NVidia graphics card
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=286480
--- Description ---
Scenario:
- FreeBSD stable/14
- Ports latest
- Laptop using "NVIDIA GPU Quadro 1000M (GF108GL)" (from Xorg.0.log) a.k.a.
vgapci0 at pci0:1:0:0: class=0x030000 rev=0xa1 hdr=0x00 vendor=0x10de
device=0x
0dfa subvendor=0x17aa subdevice=0x21cf
vendor = 'NVIDIA Corporation'
device = 'GF108GLM [Quadro 1000M]'
class = display
subclass = VGA
hdac0 at pci0:1:0:1: class=0x040300 rev=0xa1 hdr=0x00 vendor=0x10de
device=0x0bea subvendor=0x17aa subdevice=0x21cf
vendor = 'NVIDIA Corporation'
device = 'GF108 High Definition Audio Controller'
class = multimedia
subclass = HDA
(from pciconf -lv)
- Using nvidia-driver-390-390.154.1402501_1 as the driver
Result:
- After upgrading from x11/kde5 to x11/kde, desktop effects are not offered
anymore/do not work anymore (e.g., a blue glow around the active window).
- Compositing does not work anymore (icons in the task manager are just icons,
windows which are not refreshed lose their contents after occlusion if they are
not redrawn, etc.)
Expected result:
- Compositing and desktop effects worked in x11/kde5, it would be nice to have
them again.
- Compositing and desktop effects work with various graphics drivers in Linux
KVM running FreeBSD clients, so even these reduced emulations are "better" than
the NVidia situation above.
Yes, the machine is 13 years old, but still in good shape and perfectly
suitable for my needs - even youtube at 1920x1080 at 50 Hz is working beautifully.
