Thanks Jason.  FWIW, this was all working as expected last week.  I suspect
whatever it is is recent.  Any suggestions on how to debug this?

When I click a menu, the menu word is highlighting but nothing shows up.  I can
get to the menu and get it to display via hotkeys though.
