Ok, I suppose you'd have to find out why the polkit authentication dialog
doesn't show. With the latest polkit / sddm changes, I get the following
processes when trying to save the autologin settings:

With the first part at root level and the second inside the user session. Pid
64621 is the authentication dialog, I think.
