It was a huge problem :)

I had to switch to oss following the "pkg info -D firefox" instructions.
If that is ok, restart firefox and when about:support is shown, Audio Backend
is switched to oss.
If you still get sound with this setting, firefox is connected to "PulseAudio".
If so, you will lose sound when you run pactl exit.
The same behavior seems to occur when set to jack.
