Hi!
This item was discussed during the Graphics Team meeting last night.  We are
working on a plan to get this better tested and to get it into the FreeBSD
ports tree.  I know it's been long in the making, but can you please hold of
committing anything just yet, and give us a chance to work this out.

There is already a branch in our ports tree with these changes.  It's out of
date, but please work on that and make pull requests for it, so that we have
all changes and patches in one place:
